I have spent some time taking action with regards to my post Truth with Tiger: Sausages and wanted to share with you.
Enough people complain about the topic, but I want to get engaged and do as much as I can to help women in tech, especially here in Los Angeles where I reside.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s OK to think small in order to be effective. If you tear off more than you can chew then many times nothing is actually accomplished.
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
- Created the Google Group LA Tacos and the associated Twitter account @latacos
- Reached out to a bunch of women that I found on Twitter that seem techie and live in LA
- Found various member-based organizations that focus on women in tech. (I noticed that many of the LA based chapters are few and far between.)
- Signed up for Women 2.0 Founder Friday – Los Angeles that is on Oct. 7th
- Reached out to the DIYGirls group and trying to help find a venue such as Crashspace to host a meetup.
- Joined the Geekli.st but have been mostly following girls and trying to encourage more girls to get on it
- I spoke to my friend Sarah about the topic and came away very inspired that we can make a difference.
If you know of a great LA based Women in Tech group, please let me know!
Lastly, I am trying to organize a get-together at my house where women in tech on the eastside can come over and we can get to know each other. If you would like to come hangout, please join the group!
Hearts and Hugs,
Tara
