I’ve been beta testing ifttt for quite some time and it is one of my most favorite and useful tools that I have ever used.
It’s an online event and trigger based system that will allow you to automagically update your Twitter, Blog, whatever based on different channels that you setup.
Not only is it incredibly simple to use, but it’s visually appealing and it’s inspiring. I find myself trying to come up with interesting combinations of channels and tasks to see if I can make myself sound more interesting.
When I was beta testing it, I used the Twitter account for my neighborhood in Silver Lake @900twentysix:
- Scheduled tweets – Tweet on the first Monday at 12pm that it’s time to take a HiNoon Pic
- Calendar Reminders – I created a Google Calendar for 90026 and added events to it. When an event is coming up, a reminder is posted to Twitter
- Filter Craigslist for all “Missed Connections” in Silver Lake and post links with hashtags #Love
- When I favorite something in my Google Reader, post it to my WordPress Blog
- If the forecast calls for rain, tweet “Dayum, it’s about to rain, yo!”
- etc.
Imagine the possibilities for your website, blog, news site…The ifttt team is really responsive and great. I asked for the Google Calendar feature and within weeks it was available.
ifttt just went public today and you can sign up for free. Free yourself of manual tasks and keep your content engine revving.
