If you follow me on Twitter you may have noticed that some of my tweets were out of this universe, in fact, they were in the South By Star Wars Universe. That’s right, a mashup of South By Southwest Interactive (SXSWi) and Star Wars, hash tagged as #SXStarWars. This fun role playing game was created by Jay Bushman. I participated in the South By Star Wars – Empire Strikes Back Twitter game a couple of years ago at SXSWi and played the part of Red Leader. For that game we played the part of a character in the film and tweeted lines from the movie.
This time around the rules were a bit more loose…you just had to pretend you were going to Planet Austin for the SXStarWars conference and tweet about what you were doing. The nice thing was that you weren’t required to actually be at the “real” SXSWi conference. During the duration of SXSWi (March 11th-15th) I played from the comfort of my home in Los Angeles. I was kind of bummed that I couldn’t be at the conference, but the amazing thing was that playing this game made me feel like I was at a conference because I was tweeting with others that were playing the game and there were some very funny interactions.
Once SXSWi ended, so did the game, and all of the tweets were reviewed by different people including Jay Bushman and Bonnie Burton on the official Star Wars blog. I was super super honored to have made two “best of” lists. I did really get into the game and being recognized for my efforts was a bonus.

All of the tweets are being archived on the SXStarWars Tumblr.
If you ever get a chance to play a role-playing game on Twitter, definitely go for it. Don’t worry about your followers being annoyed, because the fun you get out of it outweighs any poor sports.
Thanks for the fun, Jay Bushman!
